Lately, I’ve learned that there are some new small engraving machines on the market, the 40×40 and 60×60 models. They come with a pretty powerful 2.2kW spindle. So why 2.2kW instead of something even bigger?
Here’s my take on it. Just my personal opinion, for reference.
For desktop-sized precision engraving machines like the 40×40 and 60×60, the spindle is the core component that really decides your machining precision, efficiency, and what kind of jobs you can handle. The 2.2kW water-cooled spindle hits the sweet spot with four main advantages: good power match, stable cooling, high precision, and low noise. It’s pretty much the “golden power setup” for small engravers – whether you’re working with wood, sign materials, soft metals, or even precision molds.

### 1. Power just right – perfect balance between power and load
Compared to a 1.5kW spindle, it’s got more punch. And compared to a 3.0kW unit, it’s more energy-efficient and better matched. It can handle cutting, deep carving, and 3D engraving on non-metals like acrylic, MDF, solid wood, and PVC – no problem. It can also do light milling and engraving on soft metals like aluminum, copper, and brass, plus roughing and finishing small molds.
